Antique French Silver-Gilt Casket,
Royal Provenance,
Cantonese Mother of Pearl Panels (China),
France – circa 1760

Provenance – This casket belonged to the HRH the Duke of Gloucester.

The casket has been stamped with French import marks for the year 1820.

The twenty-one rectangular panels on the top, and six rectangular panels on each side are Cantonese mother of pearl. The panels of the casket depict birds and butterflies in the foliage, and a floral pattern. The casket has a silver interior and silver cage work with a rococo lock plate and silver feet.
