Product Description

This rare and exceptionally fine Chinese silver-gilt casket of rectangular serpentine shape dates from the mid-eighteenth century, although unmarked, it was probably made in Canton, China.

The hinged cover and sides have been covered with a trellis of the finest filigree work which has been laid over the gilt casket and held securely in position by the silver trim at the edges. A variety of patterned sheets of intricate filigree have been used for this, including fish scale pattern, circular and quatrefoil.  To the cover, an eye-catching stylised floral and scrolling foliate panel showcases the variety of differently designed filigree panels.
