Product Description

Of circular form with fine spiralling filigree, the rim and socket slightly flaring. The feet cast in the form of birds.

Three similar pieces are highlighted in “Gold, Silver and Bronze from Mughal India” by Mark Zebrowski, which all have identical or very similar filigree work to to the candle holder in our collection. Zebrowski attributes them to Karimnagar, Deccan and dates them to the 18th century.

The first, a lobed Container, is held by the National Trust at Powis Castle; the second, a tray, is held in the Krishna Riboud Collection in Paris; and the third, a casket, is held by the British Museum (# 1904, 1006.1.a).
